Cat bone cancer: Is it safe to wait a week for an oncologist visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Male | neutered | 12 years and 9 months old | 17 lbs

My vet thinks my cat has bone cancer per an X-ray and symptoms, but the oncologist can't see him until a week from today. Then we have to set up a biopsy appointment after that. We can get him in tomorrow morning for a consultation with the oncologist if we pay extra through the pet emergency room. Should we wait a week or get our cat seen asap so we can get a biopsy and start treatment? Not sure how fast the cancer will spread in that time. Thank you!

Hello, I am so sorry for the possible diagnosis of bone cancer in C. I know how hard it is to wait on such a thing. The chance of the cancer spreading significantly in a week is pretty slim, but if it is in your budget to see the oncologist tomorrow, I would take it. Overall, it will speed up the total time to get the biopsy results back. I truly hope that al is well with C. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
