Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 14 days old
3days ago max was left in his cage for an extra 30min b4 going out since I got late from college, instead of holding, he poo’d in the cage. The next morning he did it again. After being fed only once today he has done it 6 times in just 2 hours In small amounts. Stool is loose as well. He’s being fed his regular meals, nothing new. now since past 3 days he does it 8-10 times per day IN his cage. I take him out every hour but he doesn’t bark to go out. He did it in yard since day1. What to do now?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Max! It sounds as though Max has diarrhea. With diarrhea comes urgency or the feeling they have to go so he is just going where he is. With bad diarrhea the pet can sometimes go every hour if they have the sensation to go from inflammation. Causes of diarrhea are: ate something outside that is disagreeing with him, viral or bacterial infections, stress, intestinal parasites, food allergy or intolerance. It is probably best to take Max to your Vet. Bring a stool sample to have it tested. They will likely start him on an antibiotic to help the inflammation. You could with hold food for 12-24 hours to rest his stomach then start a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger (rinse all the fat off) with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day. Feed the bland diet until 2 days of normal stools. Sometime when they have diarrhea and you start a bland diet they do not produce stool for 1-3 days. You can also start a probiotic. I like Purina Fortiflora which can be found online. I hope this helps and I wish Max a speedy recovery!
