My dog has diarrhea and threw up. Is rice and ground beef okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | 6 years and 9 months old | 60 lbs

My dog has diarrhea (orange colored with some grass in it since yesterday afternoon) from eating a bunch of grass. Is it OK to cook some ground beef and rice to feed her? She also threw up her food last night.

I'm so sorry Charlotte is not feeling well. If you are going to do a bland diet with ground beef, be sure to boil the beef and/or rinse it well to make sure that all the fat is removed, then feed 1/2 cooked ground beef and 1/2 cooked white rice. I would recommend feeding small amounts (1/4 of a normal meal) every couple of hours to make sure that she is keeping it down. If she vomits again, does not eat, or does not seem to feel well, please have her evaluated by your veterinarian. If the diarrhea continues on a bland diet or has blood in it, I would also recommend having your vet examine her. Good luck! I hope that was helpful!
