My puppy's stool has red streak & mucus. Vet closed. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | West Highland White Terrier | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 10 days old | 5.3 lbs

Arlo's morning stool had tiny red streak. He is still playful. He drank milk and ate biscuits. He didn't take any pedigree. His afternoon stool was soft with mucous and no blood. Am getting a little worried because my previous dog died of parvo infection. What should I do? It's a national holiday today. So my vet is not available. What to do now?

If you can't get him to a vet all you can do right now is monitor him and make sure he continues to eat and drink and then take him to the vet when they are available for a check up. I would not be worried about parvo just yet. At this age they still have immunity from their mother (if the mother was vaccinated). We start seeing parvo when that immunity wanes around 8 weeks of age. Some vets will start vaccinating for parvo around 6 weeks of age so if you took him to the vet now for a check up they could start his vaccinations. That may ease your worry. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
