My dog's temperature is 98. Is this low? Does he need a vet tonight?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 55 lbs

I am not sure what the dogs accurate temp is. i have a thermometer from the dollar store. i believe his temp was about 98. I am concerned though. I did take a few classes in vet tech classes. I feel that the dog should be seen, maybe tonight. should we wait until tomorrow

A dog's normal temperature is between 101-102.5F, so Rowdy's temperature is low. I would take it again, as you may have accidentally inserted the thermometer in some feces in his anus. If it's still low, then it may be a good idea to have him seen by a vet tonight. I hope this helps!

99 degrees Fahrenheit is still considered normal for a dog. If you add a degree or two because the temperature was taken under the arm then that still puts Reggie in a normal temperature range. If Reggie is behaving normally you probably have no cause for concern especially with a normal temperature. However, if you are worried you could always bring him to your veterinarian to have them help take a rectal temperature. Thanks for using Boop by Petco!

Is it normal if chico has his temperature down to 36.8 his a small dog... I'm using that thermometer but its giving me different answers should I keep using that for chico
When you take the temperature there is a chance that sometimes when there is a lot of poop in the rectum, the temperature appears a bit lower than it should be. If Chico does not appear ill, is lively and happy, eats and drinks properly, I would not worry so much. Take his temperature again tomorrow, leave the thermometer in the rectum until it makes the sound that the temperature is recorded, and then gently pull it out. You should push the thermometers tip gently into the rectum about an inch to make sure you are getting an inner body temperature. If Chico appears ill, sleeps a lot and is lethargic, he needs to be seen by your veterinarian.

Hey, I used a thermometer and my digs temperature was 104.1 then I checked a few hours later and now it's 100.1. Does my dog have a fever and if so what can I do besides take him to the vet? His nose was dry and now it's a bit wetter. I'm worried he
If your dog had been exercising or out in the heat it is possible his temperature could have increased due to this, but 104.1 is a pretty high temperature if you feel it was truly an accurate reading. We can see dogs temperatures get that high if they are really hot/excited/stressed and they are overweight or brachycephalic (smoosh faced) but I am concerned that his energy level was decreased. If he still doesn't seem himself tomorrow then I would bring him in for an exam. If overnight his temperature gets very high again, or he becomes weak, has trouble breathing, or his gums become pale in color or he starts having other symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea then I would consider bringing him in to the emergency vet.

I just feel his ear warm so when I took his temperature from anus it came 101.5 Fahrenheit then after 15 minutes when I check then it came 101.4 Fahrenheit so should I give him a paracetamol or it's normal rest he is active playing well and also eat
This temperature is normal for a dog. Their normal body temperature is 99-102.5 Fahrenheit. He does not have a fever so no need to give him medication. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.

My dog Bandit has the 99.0 temperature and he is panting could this be a problem?
Bandit's temperature is low, as a dog's normal temperature is between 101-102.5F. He could be panting because he's stressed, in pain, or sick. I would just monitor him for now. If his temperature goes about 103F, or he appears sick or in pain, take him into a vet immediately. Best of luck.

I went for a 15 mi utes walk where he played and run and after coming back to home i immediately took his temperature and it came 102.9 Fahrenheit so is it normal to have this much of temperature after walk or not?
Hi there. Normal temperature in dogs ranges from 100.5 - 102.5. So 102.9 is just barely above normal, and not at all surprising if you've just been on a walk. This shouldn't be any cause for concern at all, as long as Bruno is acting normal :)

What if my dog has a low fever.. does sugar and warm water helps? Because here in the Philippines.. when our dog has a fever, we usually use sugar and warm water to make them feel better...
A dog's normal temperature can be as high as 102.5, so below that it's normal (99-102.5 is normal). Especially at such as young age, I wouldn't attempt any home treatments for a fever and get to a vet right away. That said, sugar and warm water wouldn't do anything for the fever, except if it encouraged extra drinking which could support general health

103F is just barely a fever in a dog. Normal is under 102.5F. I would let Wemwem calm down for a couple hours and recheck the temperature. A slightly increased temperature isn't very concerning if there isn't any other signs of illness.

Hello. Yes, you can use the thermometer you have. Put a little lubricant on the end ( even a little cooking oil will work ) & gently insert it into the rectum. Just go far enough in that you can no longer see the silver tip ( so you do not have to put the entire thermometer all the way in ). Wait for the beep & read. A normal temperature for a dog is approximately 101.5 F. We consider anything over 103 F to be a true fever. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.
