My dog's toe nail is swollen. Is it serious? When should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 70 lbs

I just noticed today this swelling or growth around my dogs one toe nail. It doesn't seem to bother him when he walks. Is this something I should worry about? Is there something I can do for him or is this a find and take to the vet type of thing?

This kind of swelling could be due to nail bed infection or a growth. Please, take Mason to a vet to get the leg examined and to find out what is going on. Treatment for nail bed infection is usually straigh forward but it does involve prescribing a course of antibiotics. Investigation and treatment for a growth may involve surgery.
