What's the best way to care for and feed orphaned newborn puppies?

We're feeding dogs in our community pound for 2 weeks now, neglected by our local government. 1 dog was pregnant when she was admitted in the pound& we didnt know she was pregnant at first. When we came at the pound the other day, we saw 3 puppies, one was dead, other is okay &the other one fell on a pipe. It took me &my sister over 3 hours to get the puppy out. Mama dog was claimed by the owner & owner left the puppies. Now we don't have any idea how to properly for newborn puppies? Thanks!

Oh no, those poor puppies! How lovely of you to look after the puppies. You will have to bottle feed them, and first thing you need to get is puppy formula replacer. You can get it from a pet store or a vet's office. I will put a link below on how to raise orphan puppies. Keep in mind it is intensive the first couple of weeks, and will take a lot of your time. It's best to get dog milk replacer for them. This can be found at the pet store. If you are not able to find it, then you can feed cow or goat milk instead, but it is not as good for them. How lovely of you to take in this dog and her puppies! If they cry all the time, then they may not be getting the milk they need to survive and I would start caring for them yourself. You will need to get a puppy milk replacer such as KMR from a pet store or supermarket right away. I will put a link below on how to raise orphan puppies. Hi Quintin! Thank you for contacting Pet Coach with your question about your newborn puppy. If his eyes are not open, then he is very young. Hand raising a newborn puppy is very time intensive, and unfortunately it's not always successful because they are so fragile. First thing you need to do is go out to a pet store and get some puppy formula. Cow's milk is not appropriate for a puppy. I recommend the KMR brand of puppy formula, you may be able to get it at your grocery store or your vet's office should have puppy formula. You will also need a small bottle to feed him. They need feeding every few hours. If you feel like he is very weak, then I would recommend an exam by a veterinarian to be sure there isn't a medical cause for his weakness. They can look him over and be sure he is healthy, and help show you how to feed him and stimulate him to go to the bathroom if that is a problem for him.

Hello, the newborn puppy I have got resuced. The mother was not there, because the owner took the mother way. He is also a runt and staved, the owners fed him hotdogs.
Bones is adorable and so lucky that you rescued him. I am attaching a link to a handout below on raising an orphan. https://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=576 First, get Bones some puppy formula. You should be able to find this at a pet food store. The handout has instructions on feeding. This will give Bones the nutrition he needs and prevent dehydration. Next, puppies younger than 3 weeks of age need stimulation to urinate and defecate. Again, this is discussed in the handout. I would recommend contacting your veterinarian and have them evaluate Bones as soon as possible to make sure there aren't any medical problems or anything else that you need to be doing for him at this point. If I adopted out a puppy 2 weeks going on three weeks of age from my friend that couldn't keep them all, how would i take care of it
The puppy at this stage is best being close to the mother. Because you don't have access to her, you'll want to create the environment. You'll need to visit your local Pet store and pick up a puppy feeding kit. This should include a breastmilk substitute/formula, a bottle, and nipples. He'll need to be fed often until he's a little older. Keep him warm with a warm water bottle and be sure to stay close. If he seems weak or unresponsive you'll need to take him to the Veterinarian immediately. The best solution would be to find his mother (if you can) and let him stay with her until 6-8 weeks of age.

Hi there! There are several milk replacement formulas in the market that even though they are not as good as the puppy's mother's milk, they still provide an adequate nutrition to the puppy. There are several good brands you can get from your local pet store. Good luck!

I hate to hear this happened. Here is a link about raising orphaned puppies which may help: https://www.petcoach.co/article/orphaned-puppies-how-to-raise-them/ You will need to feed the puppy the appropriate puppy formula (not cow or goat milk) as well as attend all it's needs (make sure it is using the bathroom, being kept warm...etc) unless the mother accepts it back. You may ask your veterinarian if re-introduction is possible or it it should stay separate. Also, not all dogs are good mothers. You may consider not breeding Misty in the future. These pups will need to be given supplemental heat through a heating pad. They will also need to be bottle fed with a milk replacement supplement. Everything you need should be able available to you through most pet stores or big-box stores. Newborn puppies will require bottle feeding up to every 2-3 hours for the first week or so of their life if they make it. Sometimes, the mother will reject the puppies if she senses they are sick in some way as well. Also, important to note that some puppies just fail to thrive and it isn't the fault of the mother or the person who is trying to care for them. Give it your best shot and best of luck!
