My cat is lethargic and not eating. Should I force feed her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 8 years and 11 months old | 7.13 lbs

My cat is very lethargic and barely drinks and only eats when i can smear a little on her mouth or when its more watered down but not her usual healthy appetite. She has been to vet and weighs 7.13 lbs. No fever but they have no clue what is wrong. She always had a healthy appetite except for thursday afternoon. Should i force feed her? should i just focus on giving her water and let her eat when she is ready? Please help an tell me what you would recommend for testing, blood work, x-ray?

Yes, I would recommend syringe feeding with a soft, mousse textured high calorie recovery diet as periods of fasting in cats can cause additional complications and liver issues. A full blood panel and dental exam would be recommended in order to identify the cause of her reduced appetite, infections, kidney disease and oral pain are all possibilities
