Why is my indoor cat's eye bump hard? Could it be an abscess?

I have an indoor cat. A large bump as come up on the top of his left eye. He seems to be acting fine. Nothing coming out. Thought maybe it might be an abscess. But could an abscess be hard inside? Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 11 months and 16 days old
