Why is my dog vomiting blood, but otherwise acting completely normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Staffordshire Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 39 lbs

My 6 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier has vomited blood today, it looks exactly like bile except it’s bloody. He isn’t on any medication and is acting as normal. What could be causing this? (I realised that I should take a picture after I tried to dab up the vomit)

These signs could be compatible with an inflammation infection of the gastrointestinal system and surrounding organs (like pancreas and liver). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is immediately essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Gastrointestinal ulceration is possible (that could be the source of blood). Antibiotics and possibly further investigations (like abdominal imaging as ultrasound or radiographs) may be needed.
