My dog keeps pooping and peeing in his crate overnight. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 7 months and 6 days old

I have to put my dog in his crate overnight as he rips the wallpaper off the wall but last night he had a pee and a poo in his crate. His crate isn't too big for him so why is he doing this? I give him his tea at 5 o'clock and I let him out at 9 o'clock so why is he pooping through the night?

I am sorry this has happened with Ziggy I am sure that is frustrating for you. It sounds like you have taken all the necessary steps to prevent an accident so this is either because of a medical issue or a behavioural one. Medical causes would be an intestinal infection or worms. Consider a broad spectrum worm treatment if you have not done one in the last 4 months. Otherwise it may be behavioural and I have included links on potty training below, https://www.petcoach.co/article/top-5-tips-to-potty-train-your-dog-young-and-old/
