My dog's leg bump is swollen, open, and he keeps licking it. Help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 30 lbs

My dog, Hagrid, has a bump on his leg that is swollen and red and looks like it could be filled with something. It also looks open and has a white/clear outer edge. He licks it frequently. Any thoughts of how I can make him feel better until we can get him to the vet?

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. Judging from the photos it looks as though the licking may have caused some irritation. It is difficult to say what this could be but looking like this I would want a veterinarian to examine this and perform additional testing on it to ensure it is not cancerous. You can try zymox ointment cream on this but I would have this looked at. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. I am also available via consultation if needed.
