Why is my Shih Tzu drooling excessively for days but still energetic?

My 1 1/2 year old shih tzu has been salivating heavily for the last two days; his energy level is fine but just drooling everywhere.

Tobie's heaving salivation could be due to dental disease, pain, or nausea. It is concerning that he has been salivating this much for two days, and it's time for him to see a vet. The vet will diagnose what is causing his salivation and how best to treat it. I would take him into the vet first thing in the morning.

Hi and thank you for your post! Drooling excessively can be a sign of nausea or a dental problem. It is hard to say what exactly the cause is without examining Gurgi first. A veterinarian can examine Gurgi and determine is the cause is related to dental pain or from nausea and the cause behind the nausea. Thank you for posting on Boop by Petco!

Excessive drooling can happen for a few different reasons, but I wouldn't worry about anything serious if he is otherwise eating, drinking and acting normal. There are certain house plants, materials, or chemicals that can cause a dog to drool excessively. It would be good to keep an eye out for anything like that and remove it from the environment if he is chewing on it. Drooling can also happen with mouth pain. This is often due to dental disease (less likely in a young dog), laceration of the tongue or gums, or something stuck in his mouth. It's good to have a good look in his mouth and see if you can identify any obvious problems. If Teddy is not getting better after two days, or is not acting normal, then it would be best to take him to a vet for an exam. I understand that money is an issue, but there are often various options in these cases and I recommend contacting a local animal rescue for advice about affordable veterinary care. My dog drools through his nose when he sleeps.
With Tucker being a shih Tzu, and their noses being so small, they can have a lot of respiratory issues. If he has a small amount of clear liquid coming from his nose, that's probably normal. But if there is color to it I would be more worried about an infection and would consult your veterinarian. Depending on how small his nostrils at there are surgical procedures to help widen them that may help him breathe better that can be done at the time of his neuter surgery.

I would watch it for 24 hours. Hypersalivation can be caused by many different things, including nausea, licking something that tastes bad, difficulty swallowing, oral pain, among a few others. If Harvey starts vomiting or is refusing to eat or drink, he should be seen as soon as possible. If the hypersalivation is still going on in 24 hours, he should also be evaluated by a vet.

Excessive drooling can be a sign of nausea, eating something toxic or bitter, tooth problem (such as infection), or a salivary duct blockage, among other things. If the excessive drooling continues, Scoopy should be seen by a vet to determine what's causing the drooling. However, if it has already resolved then you can simply monitor Scoopy for any further symptoms.

Too much drool, or hypersalivation, can be a sign of illness. Here are some causes: Heat stroke and heat exhaustion, nausea and anxiety can cause episodes of drooling. Mouth disease and tooth decay: Tarter buildup can rub against the inside of your dog’s lip, causing drool. To check, pull his lip back toward his ear. Do his teeth look like concrete? Are they brown? Are his gums red, swollen, or bleeding? If so, try a professional cleaning and then daily brushing. Your vet can check for gingivitis, mouth ulcers, and tumors as well. Organ disease: Liver and kidney diseases, for example, can cause drooling. As they age, dogs are more likely to get sick. Vets suggest annual checkups to diagnose and treat diseases early. Poisonous plants: Common plants like tulips, azaleas, and chrysanthemums can not only make your dog drool, but also make him sick. Keep your dog from eating them. My dog is drooling excessively since last night. My whole bed was full of drool and he continues to drool throughout the day. He is eating like normal and doesnt seem to be in pain. Should I be worried? He is a boxer mastiff mix. I didnt take picture
He is so handsome! I'd be worried because this is a sign of a dental problem or nausea. Given he has done this since last night, take him into the vet first thing in the morning if he's still drooling excessively. Best of luck.

Excessive drooling in dogs can be due to nausea, bloat, dental problems, poisonous plants, or heat stroke. Whether this is bad or not depends on the presence of other signs, such as vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, excessive panting, or behavior out of the ordinary. If Bugsy is simply excessively drooling, he could be feeling nauseous or may have a dental problem, but if there are other symptoms, then it is likely something more serious. If there are any of the symptoms I mentioned above or his behavior is different from the normal, I would take him into a vet now. If he's just drooling, I would monitor him. Should the drooling continue for hours or additional symptoms develop, I would take him into the vet.

My dog recently stranded drooling a lot Is that normal??
That doesn't look too excessive to me. If he was outside in the heat this could be normal, but he may also have eaten something or chewed something that irritated his mouth. Take a look in his mouth, check his gums, his tongue and underneath to see if you can see any injuries and/or foreign material. If the drooling continues without a known cause, I recommend getting him in to your vet to try and find out why he is doing this.

Excessive drooling only at the dog park?
Drooling/salivation could be caused by a number of things, including stress, excitement, nausea, dental pain, toxin ingestion, a foreign body stuck in the mouth, injury to the tongue (as can happen with electrical injury from chewing on electrical cords) or bloat. If Vinny could have eaten anything such as medications, household cleaners, plants, toys, food scraps, or garbage, please have him seen by a vet right away, and let your vet know about it to help them determine if there could be toxicity. If no medical cause is noted, it could be stress/excitement induced, and I recommend working with a trainer who uses positive reinforcement techniques to help manage Vinny's stress and help him feel comfortable around other dogs.
