My kitten's URI is worse on antibiotics, not eating. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Siberian | Male | neutered | 4 months and 21 days old | 4 lbs

I took my kitten into the vet 2 days ago for an URI, and he was given antibiotics. He's just gotten worse as far as breathing and lethargy. I've tried the humidifier/steam shower, and since he doesn't want to eat, I've given him several oral syringes of urgent care wet food mixed with water. I know its only been 2 days, when should he feel better and what else should I do?

You are doing everything in your power at the moment, i can't think of anything else you can do. due to him getting worse it might be a good idea to add some bronchodilatator meds to his antibiotics, you will need to get that from your vet. oxygen therapy is also an option if he seems really lethargic. usually improvement is seen within 3-4 days from the start of the antibiotic course.
