My cat is losing weight and has yellow skin. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 3 years and 4 months old | 3 lbs

My female, fixed cat, Mocha is around 3 to 4 yrs old. She has been losing weight over the course of a mnth 1/2. I think she weighs about 2-4 pounds & she normally is about 7-8 lbs. She is also yellow in her ears and her butt too, her eyes are a tint of yellow also. Which are nomally a yellow/orangy/light brown. Which i am assuming is jaundice. Her thigh legs & her belly are sunk in. I really need help. I can't afford to take her to a vet right now. Is there any thing i can do for her? Pleasehelp

Unfortunately, if she has impaired liver function, she will need to see a veterinarian. A physical exam and bloodwork may diagnose the underlying cause which can then, hopefully, be treated. Discuss payment plans or alternative financing options such as CareCredit (www.carecredit.com) with your veterinarian. Ask family or friends to contribute if possible. You may also be able to secure financial assistance through local charities or Red Rover (www.redrover.org). In the meantime, feed a good quality canned food. Warm it slightly or mix in a teaspoon of baby food to stimulate her appetite if necessary.
