My cat keeps chewing shoelaces. Why and how can I make it stop?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed

My boyfriend's cat keeps chewing and/or chewing off my shoelaces. Every single pair, without fail. Is this atypical? Or, like in many cases, is this just a cat being a cat? Either way, is there a solution to stop this behaviour? Thank-you!

It sounds like very normal cat behaviour. Though I can completely understand how it would be frustrating. My suggestions are: Redirection to a new appropriate chew toy Bitter apple spray- natural repellent to chewing www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=24374
