Can my dog eat a McDonald's hamburger patty as an occasional treat?

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Female | spayed | 5 years and 2 months old | 17 lbs

Is it ok to give my dog a small plain hamburger patty (no bun or sauces) from McDonald's every once in a while as a treat? I think a hamburger patty is about 2-3 oz. why or why not? Thanks!

The only problem with that is that the hamburger is fatty, and too much fat in a dog's diet leads to pancreatitis. In my opinion, this wouldn't be a good treat to give Chloe. Instead, how about giving her some boiled white meat chicken (no bones)?? That would be a healthy treat for her to have :-)

Yes, that's fine. Most dogs tolerate beef well. If she vomits after eating it, or diarrhea is noted within three days, then she may not tolerate it well. This can happen either due to it being too rich, or a food allergy (not that common). This does have a fair amount of calories though, so I always reccomend you account for these types of treats by feeding a little less of their dog food. This will help prevent obesity, which is a common problem with dogs in the U.S. I hope that helps.

Is it ok to feed a dog a hamburger patty once a day
No, that's extra fat and calories Walter does not need. The only food he really needs is his dog food. You can give him an hamburger patty as a very occasional treat, such as once a month. Best of luck.

<20 lb dog ate large medium McDonald's fries
While McDonald fries are certainly delicious, they are not meant for dogs. The problem with them is that they are both high in fat and salt, and fatty foods cause pancreatitis in dogs. Pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas, and it's a very serious condition that requires intensive care because it can be fatal. If T'challa ate these fries within the last two hours, you can take him into a vet immediately to have vomiting induced to prevent any problems. If it's been longer than two hours, monitor him. Should you see a loss of appetite, vomiting, and/or belly pain, that could mean he has pancreatitis and you will need to take him into a vet immediately. I would withhold food for tonight and if he appears fine tomorrow and doesn't show any of the symptoms I mentioned above, feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal food. I hope this helps!

Yes, you can give your pup cooked chicken or meat as an occasional treat. I would boil the chicken or meat as that's the healthiest way to give it to your pup. Too much fat can lead to pancreatitis, so never give your pup pork and only lean cuts of meat :-)

I accidentally left an Arby's burger with mayonnaise, some fries, and fried mozzarella stick out within reach. Maxi ate the stick, burger, and a couple fries. Is there anything I should be concerned about?
Maxi can get pancreatitis from this or diarrhea and vomiting. I would recommend giving her a bland diet (boiled chicken and white rice) just to calm everything down and then monitor her. If she starts vomiting, diarrhea, not eating, becomes lethargic then I recommend bringing her to a veterinarian. I will say the visit may require hospitalization and fluid support if she is dehydrated from everything. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

Is milkbone unhealthy for my dog? Please explain.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I'm assuming you are speaking of Milkbones the treats? As with any treat, as long as it isn't causing Chloe to have any vomiting, diarrhea or inappetence, small amounts of treats in moderation are fine for most dogs. If she is dealing with a weight issue, there are low calorie treats that are available as well.

Is it ok to give her table food sometimes
It's okay to give small amounts of table food as an occasional treat if you wish - many owners do this, and I do it with my dogs as well :) Just stick to fairly healthy foods like carrots, green beans, or small bites of lean meat (roast beef, chicken, turkey, etc.) Avoid anything greasy or fatty, since these can cause stomach upset in many dogs. You should also avoid onions, chocolate, grapes and raisins, as these foods are toxic to dogs.

Yes, that is too much fat for your dog. Too much fat for a dog can lead to pancreatitis, which is life threatening and requires intensive hospital care in order to treat it. If you are going to feed your dog ground beef, I would feed him 95% extra lean ground beef and drain away the fat before giving it to him.

While cooked, boiled chicken and beef is OK to give as a treat, it should not be your dog's main source of food. It is much better to feed a balanced diet or commercial dog food that is nutritionally balanced to provide the right nutrition. Feeding only meat is not enough for your dog to stay healthy and growth healthy. You can add in a little piece of boiled meat with the fat trimmed off, however it should not be given as a meal as it can cause digestive upset and nutritional problems.

Can dogs eat hot dogs
Hello. Yes, they can, but should they? Hot dogs are loaded with fats, sugars & salt & not very nutritious for us or for our pets. An occasional treat or taste is fine, but I have seen too many dogs get hooked on fatty meats & refuse to eat their regular diet. As a result, we see obesity, pancreatitis, organ damage & skin problems. If you want to treat Piper, or use a small piece as a training aid, that is fine, as long as she eats a good balanced dog food diet daily. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.
