My cat's gums look weird: sore, spike, no pain. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 2 years and 8 months old | 11 lbs

My cats gums look weird. It looks like she may have some sort of sore on her bottom gum and some spike to her top gums. She is not showing any signs of discomfort and eats and drinks well.

Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be a nodule or mass in the bottom lip. For this reason, I recommend that you have Angel evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. Your veterinarian could perform a fine needle aspirate or biopsy to try to reach a diagnosis. The other possibility is periodontal disease but it would require a thorough examination to know for sure. Good luck! Hoping that it is benign and nothing to worry about.
