Why does my dog have a bad-smelling brown discharge after birth?

My dog just had a babies three die and three lived the last puppy was stuck in her I had pull it out . Now she's been discharging a Brown type of liquid It smells very bad what's should I do

I would take Gabriella into a vet immediately, this sounds like a medical emergency. If you have to pull one puppy out, it could be that there is another one stuck in the birth canal causing this smelly discharge. It certainly isn't normal to have a discharge that smell very bad, so she needs veterinary attention now. Please bring her and her puppies into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

So about 1 am this smelly brown stuff came out my dog. Then some other liquids but it had no smell she looks pregnant I don't know whats really going on...Can you tell if she is pregnant or not? :) Thanks
Hello, based on those images, her nipples are enlarged but there is no clear mammary gland development, therefore its difficult to say if she is pregnant or not. The best way to tell if she is pregnant, is to have her seen by her veterinarian for an x-ray or ultrasound. In regards to the discharge, it could be coming from her rectum or anal glands, or it could be coming from her reproductive tract or urinary tract. It is difficult to say if she discharge from any of these tract without a physical examination. At the time of her visit, please inform your veterinarian about this discharge so that they may look closely at these possible sources. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Hello, my name is Dr. Shines and I agree this is concerning. I suspect Pacha has an infection either in her vaginal canal or in her bladder. Some vaginal discharge is normal but the odor and increase in leakage is not. I recommend to make an appointment this week to have Pacha examined. The veterinarian will likely test a urine sample to determine if that the source of infection. Antibiotic selection will depend on the source of the infection. If it is vaginitis, she may get an antibiotic and a probiotic. One other thought, you may also ask the veterinarian to check her anal glands. Anal gland excretions are a VERY common cause of bad smell from the back end of pet. Sometimes the glands are infected but sometimes they are just full and benefit from being expressed. I hope this helps to provide some guidance and that things get figured out quickly.

Hello. This is a normal discharge called lochia. It is the remains of the uterine lining being expelled & this may continue for up to 12 weeks after a bitch gives birth. As long as it does worsen or contains signs of bright red blood, then this is a normal part of the whelping process. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

As I said before, the discharge may be normal. It is called lochia. Please refer to this article for more information. ( https://whelpingpuppies.com/how-long-a-dog-bleeds-after-giving-birth/ ) I only mentioned taking her to a vet because you stated she delivered a dead puppy 12 hours after the first two. If you are saying she is hot then she may have a fever. If you don't want to take her to a vet that is up to you. I can't tell you anymore than this without examining the dog myself. Feeding milk to a nursing dog is not recommended. Dogs at her age do not need milk and it is not going to do anything to boost the milk she gives the puppies. If she is eating a good dog food you don't need to give anything else.

My dog is having puppies and it's green stuff coming out and the puppies are dying
It's normal to see some green discharge after puppies are born, but if the discharge comes before the puppies are being born, that can be a sign of a premature placental separation. It's quite concerning that the puppies are dying. They are extremely fragile creatures, and unfortunately some don't make it, but if all of them are dying, that suggestions something seriously wrong. I would take the mother and the puppies into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see them now.

That's extremely unlikely. A placenta should be delivered for each individual puppy, so the sac and placentas should all have been delivered. It can be difficult to count unless you are closely monitoring during delivery, as she will eat some of the placentas. If she seems to be doing well since she gave birth--all the puppies are nursing, she is eating, she doesn't seem painful or distressed--then I wouldn't worry. Thanks for asking Boop by Petco!

Yes, dogs can normally have a dark discharge known as lochia for a few days after giving birth. It should turn green shortly after whelping, and then turn to a rust color 48 hours post-partum. This discharge should not have any odor, and Nagai should not show any signs of illness. If the discharge persists in a black color, has an odor, or she shows signs of illness, she will need to see a vet immediately.

HI, thanks for using Boop by Petco. I think you should bring Liza to the Vet if she hasn't had a puppy yet. I am concerned by the watery discharge and the fact you think it smells. She may have started labor. Here are some tips: Stages of Labor: -Stage 1 tends to start 10-24 hours after temperature drop (usually below 99 F). -Stage 1: nesting. Can persist for 3-24 hours before abdominal contractions begin -Stage 2: Visible abdominal contractions. FIRST PUPPY SHOULD ARRIVE WITH IN 1-2 HOURS. -Stage 3: passage of placenta. Usually occurs within 15 mins of passing puppy. If it does not happen, don’t worry. When to worry/Call: -Strong contractions > 45-60 mins without birth of a puppy -Weak and infrequent contractions >4-6 hours without birth of puppy ->4-5 hours between puppies (after birth of first puppy without birth of the next puppy). On average a puppy is born every 45-60 mins. HOWEVER, the mother can often rest for several hours between puppies. This rest period is NOT associate

Some bloody discharge is normal but I can't say without seeing her. I would recommend to take Sadie into the vet for a radiograph to see if other puppies are still in her uterus. If retained puppies are present, they need to be removed as they will cause a severe infection. The doctor will also check her for a fever and abdominal pain. I would recommend to get Sadie spayed in 3 months as well so you won't have to worry about this happening. I hope nothing serious is going on with Sadie. Best of luck!
