My dog gags, vomits, reverse sneezes, and hiccups. Could it be reflux?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed

Our 3 year old puggle rescue puppy mill dog reverse sneezes and has hiccups daily. After meals, she seems to gag and vomit in her mouth. She voids and deficates fine plus she still has an appetite. No other symptoms. Could it be reflux? Hital hernia?

Hernias can and do develop in pugs and crosses, specialist imaging is required either with CT/MRI or barium swallows. Eating too fast can also contribute and I would try varying the texture of her food, feeding from a platform the same height as her elbows and slowing down eating by using a slow feeder.
