Why is my cat hiding and acting strange after being scared by a light?

I recently bought a new flashlight and turned it on and the blast of light scared both my cats so much that they freaked out and ran like bats out of hell! Well anyway one of them has been acting different since then and stays upstairs mostly Any ideas
