Why is my cat peeing blood after a urinary catheter procedure?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 3 years and 11 months old | 16 lbs

My cat had something placed in his penis today to check if he had urine in him and now he is peeing blood! It is for sure urine with a good amount of blood! He is on two medications which have been given to him, he is eating and drinking! Is this normal for a cat to have after someone sticks something up there? I mean it makes sense that has to hurt!

Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It sounds like Felix had a urinary catheter placed. If this is the case then yes having some blood in the urine is expected. Let your veterinarian know tomorrow what happened overnight though yes that would be expected after catheterization. Good luck and have a good night!
