My cat has a deep, oozing wound. Does she need vet stitches?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Burmese | Female | 8 lbs

hi there, my cat tibbz has this nasty gash behind her ear, I noticed it about 2 hours ago when I saw there was a lot of puss behind her ear. I cleaned it up and it revealed a deep, hole like cut in her neck! The wound is about 2mm deep and about 0.5cm in length! I'm not sure what I should do, or if she might need stitches at the vet? It is also oozing with pus, but not as bloody... Many Thanks

Hi and thank you for your post. If it is oozing with mucoid discharge (pus), and is a large enough cut, it is infected I will likely need to be flushed out by your veterinarian and stitched up. Tibbz will need to be on antibiotics as well. I would take Tibbz into your veterinarian as soon as possible to have this taken care of. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
