My cat has a tail abscess. Can I treat it at home without a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 3 years and 8 months old

Hi. I think my cat has been bitten and now has an abscess at the base of his tail. He has some hair loss and a red pusy looking sore, I started cleaning it with betadine and it started to clear. It has come back a wee bit bigger though. I can't afford to take him to vet after spending $3000 on him last year when he got hit by a car.. I'm so very lost as to what to do

Hi. Unfortunately there isn't a way around not going to the veterinarian for this. It won't go away on its own unfortunately. The good thing is it should be fairly easy and shouldn't be too bad cost wise. Good luck
