I am so sorry for your loss. Stomach ulcers in a cat can develop secondary to some medication use or overdoses of anti-inflammatories. Ulcers can also develop as a result of severe gastritis (stomach inflammation) that can be seen when a cat has an underlying kidney problem. Toxins and chronic GI parasites are also a possibility. Even severe cases of inflammatory bowel disease could cause this. It's very difficult to nail down an exact cause without doing blood work and other diagnostics like ultrasound. Sometimes ulcers can be treated by using medications that block stomach acid production like famotidine and omeprazole. Something like sucralfate can also be used to coat the ulcer while it heals. The rest of treatment requires knowing what initially caused the ulcer. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and again I'm very sorry for your loss.
