My kitten won't eat or drink, vomiting after spay. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 5 months and 9 days old | 5 lbs

We are going through hurrican Irma right now and our 6 month old kitten has not eaten or drank anything since at least yesterday. She refuses food and while still alert is not acting herself. She has also been throwing up clear liquid with one having a little bike in it and I noticed some mucus in her feces yesterday. She was spayed and declawed two weeks ago. Is there anything I should do now to address this as it may be a day or two before we will be able to get get to a vet

Your options are very limited due to the hurricane. Some may be due to stress from the situation which can predispose her to an infection. You can try different foods or even chicken or tuna to see if she will lick the juice if you have any on hand. The main thing is to try to keep her hydrated without causing her to vomit more. You can try to syringe water or pedialyte or chicken broth. There are no medicine over the counter safe for cats. Hopefully this will hold her over until you have some comfort and calming weather to get her in
