My dog is itching and scratching after flea collar. Is it an allergy?

I thought I would be proactive and pick up a flea collar for my miniature dachshund as I had no other way of getting his topical flea medicine soon. I read the warnings and the instructions making sure the collar was meant for my dogs size and age. Not ten minutes after putting the collar on my pet he is itching and scratching his eyes. I have since washed my hands, removed the collar, and used a clean wet washcloth to try to rinse his eye. He is still miserably itching. What do I do?

Your poor pup! It sounds like he is having an allergic reaction to the collar, and he needs to see a vet right away. He will need either an anti-histamine or a steroid to control the reaction, which can be prescribed by a vet. I would take him into a vet now.
