A high enough work burden may pose a risk to an already ill or very young puppy. A more serious concern would be parvovirus infection, especially if your pup is not vaccinated or has not completed vaccines. Ideally, he should be examined by your veterinarian. A simple teat can be done in the clinic to diagnose parvovirus. A fecal exam should also be done to confirm hookworm infection or other intestinal parasites. Supportive care (IV or subcutaneous fluids, antibiotics, parenteral nutrition, etc.) may be indicated until your pup is feeling better.
