Why should I spay my cat? Will her personality or health be affected?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | spayed | 4 months and 11 days old | 4.5 lbs

I've been debating spaying my kitten. I absolutely love her personality and do not wish for anything to change, they say that it doesn't effect the personality but I have had cats that change after the surgery. She is an indoor cat & will not be around male cats. I've read many things online saying that if you don't spay a cat then they are more likely to have certain diseases but I've also read that they will be completely fine. I'm curious what effect can happen if I do not spay my cat & why?

At 4 months of age you still have a few months to decide before she will be old enough to have it done anyways. But there are several health benefits to staying her. It can decrease the chance if manmary cancer in the future... if cats get mammary tumors it is 85% cancerous and aggressive. It will also decrease the risk of an infected uterus which can lead to sepsis and death if not caught in time... the treatment is an emergency spay! You will not have to deal with a cat in heat.. they are very loud and clingy and attract males from outside. There is little chance her personality will change from this procedure and the health benefits are worth it
