My puppy is throwing up foam and won't eat. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Female | unspayed | 4 lbs

My puppy has been throwing up white foam since yesterday afternoon, including throughout the night. This morning she threw up yellow foam. I tried to feed her a bit but she won't eat. I gave her some bread and she ate then threw up. I gave her some water. She is still acting normal throughout all this.

Poor Chloe! In a puppy I'm always more concerned about vomiting and inappetance. There is a possibility that Chloe ate something that could be causing an intestinal blockage or she could have an infection or even GI parasite causing this issue. Puppies, especially small breeds like Maltese, can develop dehydration and low blood sugar if they do not eat and have been vomiting. I think it's important to take Chloe to see your veterinarian as she may need X-rays or supportive care to stop the vomiting. I hope Chloe is feeling better soon!
