Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 11 months and 22 days old | 47 lbs
My 11 month old lab (45 lbs) swallowed a piece of floss that was about 3-4 inches long. Within 10 minutes, I tried to induce vomiting by giving her 1 tbsp of peroxide. Nothing happened, so 15 minutes later, I gave her another tbsp of peroxide and she threw up in a minute or two. I searched through the vomit, but didn't find the floss. What do I do next?

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Arya. Honestly, a piece of floss this size shouldn't be a problem in a dog this big. I would think it should pass without complication. But if you notice any nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea I would advise contacting your vet ASAP. Your vet can get a detailed history and then perform a physical exam. They can then advise any other tests which could include blood tests and x-rays if needed. I would advise feeding Arya some canned pumpkin (one tablespoon every 12 hours with her food to increase fiber and hopefully help pass the piece of floss. I would do this for the next 3-5 days and continue to assess her behavior, etc. Good luck with Arya.

Arya should pass that piece of floss. Since she didn't vomit it up go ahead and feed her as the floss can get into the food and be passed out with no problem. Generally it would be a problem if the piece of floss was longer. Please do watch Arya closely and if she stops eating, doesn't feel well, or is straining or not defecating then I would take her in immediately for an exam. if there is an intestinal tear she would need surgery to fix it. I'm not overly concerned about it as long as you are monitoring Arya closely. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Arya.
