My neutered cat won't eat, threw up, and yowls all night. Is he sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 10 months and 5 days old

My kitten is 11 months old and has been desexed. He normally LOVES feeding time but hasn't eaten anything from his last 3 meals. Last night he threw up a little bit at approximately 8pm. During the night we closed his craflap to monitor him and he has just yowled all night to get out from every single door and window of the house. I've never heard that noise before, he's desperate to get out for the first time ever. His energy levels pupils and gums are normal.

If Jax goes outside, he may be hunting or even getting food from a neighbor, so he may no longer need much food from you. Yowling is a normal behavior in strong-willed cats. It is their way of telling you they want something, and some cats are very vocal about it! The vomiting could be a one-time thing, or it could be caused by hairballs, food allergy, eating too fast, GI blockage, intestinal parasites, IBD, among others. If you can stand the howling, I would recommend continuing to keep Jax inside for monitoring. If his appetite does not return, if he continues to vomit, or if he develops diarrhea, he should be evaluated by a veterinarian.
