Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 4 years and 1 month old | 10 lbs
Should I take my dog to the vet? He is an 11lb Yorkie/Shih Tzu mix and he threw up today, a yellowish color, and there are tiny lines of bright red blood in the vomit. I've attached a picture below.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Simba! There aren't any pictures attached, but that is ok! Anytime there is blood in the vomit or stool I recommend that the pet be seen by a Veterinarian. Blood in the vomit indicates stomach lining inflammation or ulceration. Causes of vomiting are: foreign body ingestion, parasites, viral/bacterial infections, toxin ingestion, pancreatitis, irritable bowel, food sensitivities or he ate something that didn't agree with him. If Simba is bright and happy then you can try fasting him and restarting food and water tomorrow. Feed a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed small frequent meals about 3/4 cup total per day. then call your Vet in the morning. If he continues to vomit while being fasted he should be seen tonight. I hope this helps and I wish Simba a speedy recovery!

If it was just one time, I would wait and see what happens. If she seems lethargic, stops eating, has diarrhea, or has pale gums, then she should definitely be examined by a vet. Also, make sure that what you saw as blood isn't something red she may have eaten. The yellow is often bile.

Yes it would be a good idea to have Simba examined just to make sure all is well. As he's otherwise fine I'm not overly concerned but he may have eaten something that is irritating his stomach like a piece of bone or toy. They may recommend an X-ray of his stomach. I would also have them check his stool for blood and parasites. Once they know the reason they can treat him appropriately. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Simba.
