My kitten was stepped on. Why is she wobbly, dizzy, and tongue out?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 3 days old | 0 lbs

I have a one or two month old kitten that my boyfriend accidently lightly stepped on when she was under clothes. Said she started acting dizzy and wobbly. Earlier today she had her tongue sticking out. Could him accidentally stepping on her have caused This? Tested neg for distemper. Was able to get fluids in her. She's been taking clindamycin for her URI and whistling breathing

Please take Chunky monkey to the vet immediately. It sounds like she may be having neurologic symptoms, which could be due to low blood sugar associated with not eating and drinking enough due to being sick with a uri, trauma due to the accident you described, or other causes. This is potentially deadly, and your kitten should be seen right away to assess for dehydration and signs of trauma, and address the cause of her weakness. There may also be other underlying neurologic causes for her condition, and a veterinarian can help determine the cause and start treatment . Good luck!

If she experienced head trauma it is possible this could have caused her to have difficulty with her tongue. It could have been due to neurological effects or due to trauma to the soft tissue or skeletal structures of the skull. The wobbliness could also be due to head trauma. If she is not eating then we can also see wobbling and drunken appearance due to low blood sugar. If she is still experiencing these symptoms I would recommend rubbing some honey or karo syrup on her gums in an attempt to increase her blood sugar and taking her in to the vet right away for an examination.
