Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Male | neutered | 4 years and 4 months old | 24 lbs
My dog is overweight & has been eating Blue Turkey & Potato Diet. My vet said to cut his intake from 3/4 cup a day to 1/2 cup & to supplement with green beans or rice cakes. After following this for about a year, he has not lost an ounce! The vet saidto cut his food back more. He is not very active & I cannot entice him to be more active. I am concerned that he is not getting enough nutrition from the small amount of dog food he gets & what is better for weight loss, low fat or calories?

I recommend converting to a specialist weight loss diet such s hills metabolic, strictly balanced to provide all the nutrition he requires whilst also promoting weight loss. Severe diet restriction can actually cause the body to conserve all the fat and not to lose weight and that may be complicating matters. If not responding after 4weeks, blood tests to rule out medical causes for obesity should be considered
