My cat is in labor and has a red sack hanging out. What should I do

This is likely the amniotic sac or a placenta. If Iris has been having strong contractions without producing a kitten, she needs to be evaluated by a veterinarian immediately. Never pull on anything that is hanging out of her since you don't know exactly what it is. Occasionally they can prolapse part of their uterus and if you pull on it you will make it drastically worse.     Each kitten has its own water bag that dilates the birth canal prior to a kitten coming out. It typically ruptures. If this is stuck and there is no progression then she needs to be seen by a vet for assistance in removing it. If waiting to long, it can be fatal to the kitten and cause an infection in the Mom
