My dog has fleas! How do I treat my home and yard safely?

How do I get rid of dog fleas? I have a treatment for my dogs. But how can I get rid of them inside my house and outside. And how can I make sure that if I get pest control that it will be safe? Or is there something else I could use?

Ideally, a topical or oral flea preventative should be used for at least three consecutive months, preferably year round. Inside, you will need to vacuum everywhere the dog has been and dispose of the bag outdoors immediately after. Wash all bedding in the hottest water allowable by fabric. Use an area treatment, such as Knockout ES, to prevent future reinfestation. These products are generally safe for pets once they are dry. Treating or preventing fleas outdoors is much trickier due to the presence of other pets and wildlife. Contact a local pest control company for the most effective, yet safe, options.

Great question! The BEST treatment is to keep prevention on ALL the pets in the home every 30 days for at least 3 months in a row. To treat the home, I recommend Knockout spray for the environment. Follow the instructions on the bottle and keep the pets out of her room. Vacuum well and throw out the bag or clean the canister because eggs can live inside. Wash all bedding in hot water. For outside, contact a pest control company to spray. Good luck and kisses to Rudy!
