Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | unspayed | 6 months and 8 days old | 50 lbs
Our 6 month old dog (German Shepherd mix) has had diarrhea on and off for nearly two months. We have tried two rounds of antibiotics, rice and chicken diet, different protein in kibble, avoiding the park where we know there is goose poop, and taking away toys and anything else she chews on. The diarrhea has been as constant as every day for almost a week, and as infrequent as two episodes in a week. Her energy level and appetite have been normal for the most part. What else could this be?

Diarrhea can be caused by many things, including food intolerance, food allergies, intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion, bacterial or viral infection, stress colitis, autoimmune disease, systemic disease (liver, kidney, pancreas, diabetes), among others. I would recommend talking to your vet about intestinal parasite screen and broad treatment for intestinal parasites, including worms, giardia, and coccidia. You may also talk to your vet about allergy testing for food sensitivities, or discuss a food trial. Food allergies can be found in puppies as well as results. You may also consider B12 injections, as some types of diarrhea can cause damage to the intestinal lining and limit absorption of B12, which is needed to heal the lining. Another possible cause would be pancreatitis, IBD, or EPI - all things that could be discussed with your regular vet and diagnostics performed.
