My cat is vomiting after new kitten with cold. Is it contagious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 11 months and 29 days old | 11.5 lbs

I've had a new kitten for 5 days now, and my older cat (1 year) started throwing up last night around midnight. His first vomit was full of his dry and wet food, then his next 3 were clear and runny, and a little bubbly. He hasn't thrown up since early this morning, but he won't eat and isn't too interested in playing, though he is alert. Could he have gotten something from the kitten? The kitten has some cold symptoms as of 2 days ago, but is doing fine otherwise.

I am sorry to hear this! Yes, it is possible he picked up something from the new kitten even if she was asymptomatic. I would recommend taking them both in and having them tested for infectious diseases and worms at a minimum. I hope it is nothing too serious but better safe than sorry! I hope this helps!
