Why is my cat keeping one eye closed for months, no discharge?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed

Hey, so my 1 year old kitty is keeping one of her eyes closed most of the time. Even when she focuses on something one eye is fully or halfway closed. Been doing that for few months now. No discharge or anything. Sometimes it's fully open like in picture. Can't really take her to vet either.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Spuka could have a viral infection called Herpes that flairs up occasionally. Usually this happens in times of stress. There are medications (lysine) to help keep the virus quiet but there is nothing to cure it completely. Good luck and kisses to Spuka!
