Can I get asthma from my cat if we cuddle and she sleeps with me?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 5 months old

I have a cat. She sleeps with me and she loves cuddling. I have heard people saying one gets asthama from cats when you hold them close. Is there any chance of me having the disease?

Cats do not give you asthma/cause the disease but an individual person who is allergic to cats may have an asthma attack if they are around a cat. If you have any breathing issues I would recommend consulting your human physician.
