Why does my kitten have diarrhea? Is it dewormer or feline distemper?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 27 days old | 0.0075 lbs

My kitten is 3 weeks old and just finished his last does of dewormer (strongid) yesterday. I know a side effect of deworming is diarrhea which he has been having since he started on it friday, but i wanted to know how long the diarrhea will continue. He is also on medication for feline distemper which he was positive for, can it be the temper causing the diarrhea or the dewormer or the meds for distemper? He has a large appetite still and makes it to the litter box sometimes.

If Alaska tested positive for panleukopenia also called feline distemper that is causing the diarrhea. I would recommend taking him to the veterinarian for medications for the diarrhea. It is important it resolves to prevent dehydration and Alaska getting sicker. You can try an over the counter probiotic by it might not be strong enough. Hope that helps
