What breed and gender is the stray cat I'm feeding, acting domestic?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I recently saw a stray cat in my garden and started feeding it, and it's starting to act more like a domestic cat. I'd like to ask, what breed and gender is this cat likely to be? Thanks!

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! He is very handsome, I'm assuming he is a male. Looks like you have made a new friend. The cat looks like a typical domestic short hair as we call them in the profession. Good luck with your new friend. You should check with your neighbors to see if anyone has lost a cat. It would be best once you determine that to go to your vet and let them assess the kitty and advise preventive health care treatment.

This kitty is quite lovely looking! Unfortunately without seeing it's genital area, there is no way I can tell if it is a male or female. From your pictures, he appears to be a domestic short hair. I would take it into the vet for a health check. If you decide to keep it, it will need vaccines, flea treatments, and deworming treatments. The vet can also tell you its gender. I hope this helps, enjoy your new cat!
