Is 11 weeks too early for my puppy's first rabies vaccine?

No, I would not worry. Typically the first rabies vaccine isn't given until the puppy is 12 weeks of age. I would take Grey back into the vet when he is 12 weeks old to get his first rabies vaccine (he will need a booster of it four weeks after the first). I hope this helps :-)

The Rabies requirements may be different in different states, but in general, the minimum age to get a Rabies is 12 weeks. Most veterinarians will wait and give the Rabies at 15-16 weeks with the last booster vaccines. If your pup is not at risk (doesn't live outside), I would suggest waiting until the last vaccine visit at 15-16 weeks, but it is not going to harm him if done a couple of weeks earlier.

Hello, it is generally recommended that puppies receive their rabies vaccine at 16 weeks of age. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that a rabies vaccine should be given no sooner than at 3 months of age. Regardless of the time given initially, your dog should have another vaccine at 1 year of age. Look for any evidence of hives, swollen face, or lethargy as these may indicate a vaccine reactions. Your dog will be considered to be protected against rabies 28 days after administration of the vaccines. Hope this helps and best of luck.

My dog will be four months on 4/9 but has an appointment on 3/31 & is supposed to get his next round of shots. I want him to get the rabies shot but he has to be four months. Will that week & change make a difference or just wait until 4/15?
A puppy may receive a Rabies vaccine any time after 12 weeks of age. He should be able to get it at the next appointment unless there are other circumstances (prior vaccine reaction, availability, # of vaccines being given).

Hello. Normally we start vaccinating puppies at 8 weeks of age for distemper/parvo & repeat this vaccine at 3 & 4 months of age. Puppies can be vaccinated for rabies at 3 months of age. If your puppy received a rabies vaccine at 8 weeks of age, please double check with your vet about this. If the rabies was administered too early, another booster should be given at 3 or 4 months of age, & then repeated in 1 year. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Is Jimmy almost 4-5 months old or is she 6 weeks old? It is unclear based on your question versus the pet's info line. The rabies vaccine should not be given before 12 weeks of age. In a dog older than 12 weeks of age, the rabies vaccine takes about 2 weeks to confer protection. After this time period, there should be reasonable protection. No vaccine is 100% effective at preventing disease though.

No, Princess should not be dangerous to anyone if she bites or licks them - it's very normal for puppies to do this :) Rabies is extremely rare in pet dogs, and would be virtually unheard-of in a puppy this age - it can only be transmitted through the bite of an infected wild animal, so it's unlikely that she would have had any possibility of exposure at the age of two months. Dogs can get their rabies vaccine anytime after 12 weeks of age. So she isn't quite old enough yet, but your veterinarian can vaccinate her in another month or so. I do not recommend giving 5 in 1 vaccines on your own, because in my experience, vaccines purchased over the counter and given by owners are often not effective. It's much better to have your veterinarian give the vaccine, to make sure it's guaranteed to work.

Hello my doberman puppy is 40 days old so what all vaccine i should give and at what age and anti rabies when should i be giving her?
Great question! At 40 days of age, Daisy is just over 5.5 weeks old, so she is not old enough for her first vaccines. Puppies should be at least 6-8 weeks of age, and I would wait at least another 4 days before giving her the first vaccine. She will need a DHPPi, which protects again distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, and parainfluenza. She will need three series of the DHPPi vaccines each given four weeks apart. The schedule would be: 1st shot at 6 weeks of age, 2nd shot at 10 weeks of age, and final shot at 14 weeks of age. In terms of rabies, that should not be given until she is 12 weeks old, and she will need two of the rabies vaccine given four weeks apart. She should therefore get the first rabies vaccine at 12 weeks of age and the second at 16 weeks of age. She will need a booster of both DHPPi and rabies at a year old. The vet can discuss the schedule of boosters after that with you. I hope this helps!

The puppy vaccines (Distemper, Parvo, Adenovirus2, Parainfluenza) are normally given every 2-4 weeks starting at 6-8 weeks of age, with the last vaccine given at 16-18 weeks. This usually amounts to a total of three vaccines for most scenarios. The Rabies vaccine is given first at four months of age, then a year later. The necessity for other vaccines (leptospirosis, Bordetella, etc.) will depend on the dog's environment. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Wagter. Typically puppies only receive one rabies vaccination. This is given around 16 weeks of age. It is usually valid for one year when the vaccine is then repeated. Some of this can depend on local laws, but this is the most common scenario. I hope this information helps!

If you feel like your puppy is weaker than her should be at this age then I recommend taking him to the veterinarian to be examined. He may have intestinal parasites (very common in young puppies) or could have something more serious like parvovivrus. You should also make sure he is fully vaccinated. Your veterinarian can give you a schedule of when he needs what vaccines. He should also be vaccinated for rabies at 12-16 weeks of age. Your puppy should be eating a large breed puppy food.
