I have 5 puppies that are almost a months old. They look fine but when ever they go to poop and I clean it up there is always some kind of white line which I think might be worms. what could be the cause of this. The mother is healthy although she has been having diarrhea these last couple of days but I think that's just because of her eating the puppies poop even though I try to not let her eat it anymore. And the dad is healthy as well. Why is there worms in the puppies poop??

Almost every puppy is born with worms that are passed from their mother. It is an interesting life cycle where the microscopic worms encyst in the mother and are passed to the puppies in the uterus. They can also get the worms from the environment. Therefore, we always treat puppies for worms when they are about a month old. It's best if you can take them into your vet for an exam. You can also take in a couple of poo samples, so the vet can look under the microscope and determine exactly what types of worms the pups have. This will help ensure we give the best medication. They will also be able to check them for any other health issues and start vaccines to keep them healthy.
