My puppy won't use his pee pad. How can I potty train him indoors?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | 3 months and 20 days old | 10 lbs

Im a 17 year old girl who's never had a dog before and my dog is a puppy. He is three months. I'm not sure how to train my dog to potty on his training pad. He is an inside dog and my mom wants to get rid of him because he won't learn. I really love my dog but I have no idea how to train him. Could you please help ?

Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There is a spray that you can get at the pet store that you basically spray on the pad and it helps the puppy understand that that is the right place to go potty. It is called puppy potty training pad spray. This usually works pretty well. Another thing that is important when it comes to training a puppy is positive reinforcement. This means that anytime Ace does something well such as going in the pad, congratulate him and give him treats as an incentive. I think this will work for you! Good luck!
