Is 9 hours too long for a 6-month puppy to hold pee overnight?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 30 days old

I put my 6 month old dog in his crate at 9/10PM which is when he has his last pee of the night then he gets me up at around 6 and I let him out then. I saw that a 6 month old puppy should only be able to hold his bladder for around 6 hours so is it bad that he's being left for around 9? Will it harm him? He doesn't pee in his crate overnight

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If he is able to hold his urine that long that isn't an issue. If he whines in the night to be let out at that age I would encourage you to let him out, but if he is able to go that long without a problem I'd enjoy the sleep!
