Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 4 years old | 8 lbs
My female cat has an extreme urge to urinate, but only a few drops are coming out. There is no blood in her pee, it is a yellow gold tint. She does not lick her genitals and her appetite is completely normal. Does she have a UTI? Is it more likely inflammation or bacterial? It started this morning at 10 am. All vets nearby are closed until Monday. What's the best way to relieve her or take care of her until I can get her to the vet? Thank you.

Yes she has cystitis which can be due to inflammation from crystals or bacteria. This is common in cats. I recommend giving her wet food with added water and put a little salt on it. That will increase her water intake and help dilute the urine and flush out the bladder. As long as urine is coming out she can wait to go to the veterinarian until Monday. They will do a urinalysis to see if there are crystals, occult blood and or bacteria in it. Then they will prescribe the appropriate medication, usually antibiotics. They may recommend switching her food also to prevent this from becoming a chronic problem. I also like to give these cats the supplement cosequin to reduce the bladder inflammation.
