My dog has allergies. Is Apoquel safe or are there alternatives?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bolognese | Female | spayed

My dog appears to have an allergy and the vet has recommended I give her Apoquel for a couple of months over the summer. I don't really want to put her on that due to the fact that it is an immunosuppresent and will increase her risk of getting cancer. Have you any suggestions on anyproducts I could use on her?

First of all Apoquel will definitely not increase the risk of getting cancer, it is a LOCAL immunosuppressant, it doesn't suppress the all body's immune system like steroids do, it only acts on the skin level, and this is why this medication is so great. today Apoquel is the safest and best product on the market for skin allergies, all other alternatives (atopica and steroids) are true immunosupressants with serious long term and short term side effects that could harm your dog.
