My puppy ate grapes, I induced vomiting. Will she be okay now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 7 days old | 2 lbs

I gave my puppy .8 ml of Hydrogen Peroxide to induce vomit because she ate 3-4 grapes like 45 minutes ago. She threw up 3 times in less than a minute and she seems fine now. I gave her half a teaspoon of Pedialyte so she won't throw up anymore or have diarrhea. She seems fine now and is asleep on her bed. She drank a lot of water before I gave her the HP but I'm not sure if she threw up the grapes. Do you think she'll be okay? There's no 24 hour vets around my area

Usually, if you induce vomiting within 3 hours you can get out the toxin out of the stomach. It may not have been easily identifiable if it was in there for 45 minutes. Three grapes should not be enough to cause problems, but the toxicity of grapes widely varies between different types of grapes, so I can't say for sure. It would be good to give some more pedialyte tomorrow also. This will force hydration and allow for good clearance of the toxin. If she is not urinating, vomiting or something else seems abnormal with her, then it's best to get her to the vet as soon as possible. I hope that helps and all continues to go well for Chanel.

Hello. Yes, you can administer 1 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting. If Peanut does not vomit, you can repeat this in 10-15 minutes. You still want to watch him very carefully over the next 6-24 hours for anything out of the ordinary, or if Peanut does not vomit after 2 tries. You want to watch for any signs of GI upset or depression. If you are at all concerned, please see your veterinarian immediately. Take care.

If you think she vomited them all, there should not be any further concern. If you think there may be still few in the stomach intestine I would recommend a check up as unfortunately the ingestion of just few grapes can be toxic to dogs. Since there are still many unknowns associated with this toxicity, it is better not to take any chances. The most common early symptom of grape or raisin toxicity is vomiting, diarrhea, excessive thirst, excessive urination or lethargy. The goal of treatment is to block absorption of the toxins and prevent or minimize damage to the kidneys. Pecueca is adorable! As you know, grapes are highly toxic to dogs and can cause acute kidney failure. Since the grape ingestion only occurred half an hour ago, you are correct - vomiting should be induced. However, studies have shown that hydrogen peroxide can cause significant irritation to the mouth, esophagus and stomach, and should be avoided. There are no safe and effective ways to induce vomiting at home. The best thing to do is to take Pecueca to an emergency veterinarian immediately so that they can induce vomiting with a medication called apomorphine. I hope that all goes well!
